Four years ago I was an out of work teacher, with no prospects of a job and my husband and I had just purchased our first home the year before. I was thankful to be given the opportunity to stay home with my then two and a half year old and newborn daughters, though I knew the road ahead would be challenging financially.
The next two years rolled on with one less income in our household. Monthly expenses and student loans continued to stream in. Our savings quickly began to dwindle and we started putting far more on our credit cards than we ever had in the past. My husband can work absolute magic with money and budgeting. Yet, the amount of stress that he was feeling at that time was incredibly disheartening, as there was no guarantee that I would be fortunate enough to return to teaching. I was, in fact, fortunate enough to re-enter the field of education but it wasn’t without worry. My time off had left a gaping hole in our finances; a gap that would not be quickly eliminated with the addition of a teacher’s salary.
After seeing much success with changes made through fitness and nutrition, I was feeling AH-MAZING and I knew I wanted to continue on with my new, healthy lifestyle. I was already sharing my successes with others. Coaching seemed like such a natural fit. After all, as a teacher, I have always been passionate about helping others through education, guidance, and support. Furthermore, the accountability to my own health and the idea that I could contribute financially to my household in a very REAL way that would go above and beyond my teaching salary was extremely motivating to me. There was just one thing holding me back.....I had absolutely NO EXPERIENCE with coaching of any kind. It turned out that I was able to plug right into simple training that was already there and available to me as a new coach.
To say that this income has had a significant impact on our household finances would surely be an understatement. We’ve paid off credit cards and easily covered our daughters' various extra curricular activities. Even better? I’m looking forward to having my Masters paid off this year! I now have the tools to create the kind of financial freedom I've envisioned for my family all while helping other women to feel confident and empowered, working toward their own goals. More importantly, I'm setting a wonderful example for my daughters.
